Whitmore Law

Questions people are relieved someone finally answered.

Do I really need a lawyer for a will?

For a simple estate, a proper will is quick and inexpensive. Where it earns its fee: blended families, a business, property outside BC, or anyone likely to challenge it. Kits and online wills fail most often exactly where estates get complicated.

What does a consultation cost, and what do I get?

A flat fee, stated on the booking page. You get 45 minutes, direct answers, and a written summary of your options. There's no obligation to continue, and no awkwardness if you don't.

How does billing work?

Flat fees for predictable work (wills, POAs, incorporations, uncontested matters). Estimates and monthly itemized invoices for everything else. You'll know the likely range before we start.

Do you go to court?

Yes, when it's the right tool. But most family and estate matters resolve by agreement, and resolving them that way is usually the win.

Separation: do we each need our own lawyer?

For a binding separation agreement, each person needs independent legal advice — it protects the agreement as much as it protects you. I can act for one of you and suggest respected counsel for the other.

Can we meet by video?

Yes — most first consultations happen by video. Wills need an in-person signing appointment; almost everything else can be handled remotely.

A question this page didn't answer?

That's what the consultation is for — 45 minutes, a flat fee, and you leave understanding your options.
